Firmware
keep your Oneira
current.
New expressions, new tricks, and quiet improvements arrive as firmware. Plug your Oneira into a computer, press one button, and it will be running the newest version about a minute later.
Your Oneira keeps its memories — bond, streaks, and pairing survive an update.
Updating replaces the program your Oneira runs and nothing else. The part of its memory holding your bond stage, your streak, your patina, your passport stamps, the secrets you’ve found, its Wi-Fi details and its pairing is never written to and never erased. You will not start over, and you will not have to pair it again.

If something goes wrong
troubleshooting.
01My Oneira isn’t in the list when I press Update.
Nine times out of ten it’s the cable. Plenty of USB-C cables only carry power, and a charge-only cable will light your Oneira up while staying completely invisible to this page. Swap in a cable you know moves files, then try a different port on the computer — front-panel and hub ports are less reliable than the ones on the machine itself. Also close the Arduino IDE or any serial monitor, since only one program can hold the connection at a time.
02It still isn’t showing up. What now?
Put the board into bootloader mode by hand. Unplug your Oneira, press and hold the BOOT button on the XIAO board without letting go, and — still holding it — plug the cable back into the computer. Release BOOT once it’s connected. Your Oneira’s screen will stay dark; that is exactly what bootloader mode looks like and it is not a fault. Press Update and it should now appear in the list. If it is already plugged in, an alternative is to hold BOOT, press RESET once, then release BOOT.
03The update stopped partway through.
Nothing is broken and nothing was lost. Leave it plugged in, reload this page and press Update again. If it fails in the same place twice, use the bootloader-mode steps above — a device that can’t be reset automatically can almost always be updated manually.
04The screen is dark after updating.
Check the power switch on the round display board, and on revision 1.1 boards check that the small KE switch is on. If the screen is still dark, hold RESET for a moment and let it start again.
05Will I have to set it up again?
No. An update writes only the program itself and leaves the area holding your settings untouched, so your Wi-Fi, your pairing, and everything your Oneira has learned about you carry straight over. The only thing that clears it is the factory reset at the bottom of this page, which asks you to confirm first.
